Mathias Reis is a visual artist and photographer. Over the past ten years, his poetic research has focused on creating works in which environment and landscape play a fundamental role in their conception, often assuming a central presence. His approach begins with the presentness of the body in direct sensory relation with other life forms and geophysical forces, seeking to perceive a plurality of vital forces as immanent material for collaborative works capable of transforming ways of perceiving and inhabiting the world. Based on these experiences, he is currently writing a book as part of his PhD in Arts at the Institute of Arts at UNESP, in which he systematizes processes and methodologies for artists interested in this field. At the beginning of his trajectory, he engaged with urban gardens, later incorporating permaculture and nomadism as aesthetic dimensions, particularly while coordinating the project Atelier Contágio in collaboration with other artists. Seeking further approaches, he established his studio near an urban forest, engaging with it continuously for artistic and conceptual purposes. He currently conducts field research in National and State Parks, as well as private reserves, investigating how displacement and large-scale biomes influence artistic production.
